Asking questions for Yi divination is like getting to know a new friend in conversation.
Our communication reflects what is going on inside of us. Getting more clarity in our answers tends to happen as we learn to create more specific clarity with how we communicate.
Just like if we asked a friend, out of context, "Should I date that guy?", the friend might not really be sure what to say, and so what they say might not be helpful for us. Or maybe they just say yes or no flat out.
This is not very helpful though. Unless we just want to do everything someone else tells us, it would help to have some sense of why our friend said yes or no.
If we want to ask an oracle for a yes or no answer, flipping a coin is a solid way. But again, we might not feel like we have enough information to trust the answer.
However, asking a yes or no question of the Yi, an oracle of Change, is also frustrating. Because it speaks in terms of types of Changes. It does not have a flat out yes or no answer.
Furthermore, asking a yes or no question, like "Should I do X?" is really combining two questions into one. In order to properly answer the question, the oracle needs to take into account both sides of the equation - the "doing x" and the "not doing x" and provide a spectrum of the changes between them. Then, the answer can be found by seeing how the type of change layers over the situation, and determining what end of the spectrum is more probably beneficial.
In some cases these either-or questions can be easy to interpret.
And, more often, they can complicate things considerably. If there is not a clear yes or no, the Yi will often give answers that may be accurate but that can be very tricky to interpret, especially if someone is interpreting another person's divination. If people like to ask questions like this it is fine, but they may need to rely on their intuition a bit to guide them through any unclarity.
More to come on asking questions for heightened clarity.
